Install scanner in Ubuntu

Asked by Pepe

I tried to set up CanoScan LIDE 110 and Simple Scan does not recognize anything. The is no power supply cable only the USB cable. It does not seem to require power cable. I just want to scan something. No tricks. Thanks

Where you 'come from' is moot here

pepe@pepe-desktop:~$ isusb
No command 'isusb' found, did you mean:
Command 'lsusb' from package 'usbutils' (main)
isusb: command not found
pepe@pepe-desktop:~$ lsusb

Pepe,

I have a Canon LiDE 25 that simple-scan doesn't work with either, but xsane works just fine.

It's an option to try, if you can't get simple-scan working.

Best of luck,
George

Try:

gksudo gedit /etc/sane.d/genesys.conf

Add these 2 lines:

# Canon LIDE 100cd
usb 0x04a9 0x1904

Save the file, close gedit then run:

gksudo gedit /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane.rules

add these 2 lines:

# Canon CanoScan Lide 110
ATTRS{idVendor}=="04a9", ATTRS{idProduct}=="1909", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"

Save the new file, close gedit and reboot. Does the scanner work?

That's OK. I cannot reinstall XP in my present Ubuntu (100%) computer. So I have decided to set up my old XP computer. I can use my Pagemaker which is easier than Scribus. Photoshop Elements is about the same as Gimp. Another ten years and those that "know everything" will realize that GUI is it. There are 20 Trillion computers out there using it. But these people still got to "terminal." Makes them feel a little bit more savvy I guess.

I got work to do, let us move on.

Gui isn't "it" (whatever "it" is). Nor is command line. It's simply whatever gets the job done.

I had a go at using your suggestion substituting the 1905 PID [for the Lide200] in the appropriate places.

I get the xsane no scanner found dialog box (tried sudo as well).

Am I wasting my time and yours by asking?

I can put a new question in if worth pursuing.

Thanks
Ted
