If the answer above have not been enough, then you have two options:

First.
The basis for all scanner related stuff is the Sane Project (http://www.sane-project.org/).
You can start by checking the Supported Devices by Manufacturer (http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-CANON)
It looks like your scanner is fully supported with the pixma backend.
This should mean that by installing libsane and libsane-extras if they are not installed already.
