HP 5400c: Won't scan complete A4
Simple Scan recognises my HP 5400c scanner and all works well except that whatever the page size specified it cuts off about 2" from the top of an A4 page. Can anybody suggest why this might be?

A4 is a european paper size. is your scanner for north america? north american scanners only accommodate letter and legal sizes which is different from the european A4, A5, B4, B5 sizes.
you could try scanning at legal size.

Thanks, but I'm afraid legal size is just the same. With xsane I get the full page, but I'd prefer to use Simple Scan because it otherwise seems very good and easy.
Try grabbing the latest HPLIP from the HPLIP site and install it, you will need to mark it as executable and run it in a terminal without sudo.

Thanks, but HPLIP doesn't appear to cover single purpose scanners such as the 5400c. I have now installed gscan2pdf, which is working OK and is almost as easy as Simple Scan. So I'll leave it there. Thanks to everybody who has answered.
