Epson V350 install under ubuntu 10.10

Asked by Henry Wassink

Hello linux community,

I am new to this software and tried to install my epson V350 scanner under ubuntu 10.10. I was referred to site of avasys.
The manual on pdf userg_revL_e.pdf I do not comprehend, because I do not know how to log in as root. I found out, that that was unwise to do anyway.

Can somebody please give me instructions which files to download and how to proceed. I have a 32 bit system

First step: is your scanner recognized by Ubuntu ?

Unplug scanner, and then Ctrl+Alt+T to open a terminal.
Type command
   lsusb
Plug scanner and wait 30 seconds. Type again command
   lsusb
The difference is your scanner. Please post the new line.

Second step: try to use scanner without installing anything. Scan software embeds a scanner database. Yours could be inside.

it seems that epson does not make drivers for their scanner but a company called avasys does.

go to this link and choose "scanners" at the right side of the screen. at the bottom of the window that load, you can select your scanner. on the download page, select the "deb package".

the driver should install automatically for you when you download it.

Hello marcus Aurelius,

I had already found the page you suggested and downloaded all the files.
The did not install by themselves, but I first opende de deb iscan data package with software centre. After installing that I proceeded with installing all the other deb packages.

Now my scanner works fine, as wel with imagescan as with XSane Image, so thank you very much for the suggestions.
