epson stylus cx9400 all-in-one scanner not recognised

Have an epson stylus 9400fax all in one. I've tried xsane and loaded the libsane-extras package but can't get it to recognise the scanner. Printing works fine with CUPS. Epson website gives a link to an AVASYS driver but I don't find anything familiar about it. Haven't tried it yet though. Any suggestions?

yes. my suggestion is that you follow the instruction and install the driver to see if it works.
