Where are scanned images kept?

Where are the scanned images kept before they're saved? Question 112884 doesn't answer this question (in fact the answer isn't an answer). If they are kept in a file how do I specify where that file should be?

When you click the final save button you should be able to specify where it goes. Logically it would be $HOME, ~/Desktop, ~/Pictures or /tmp

As I said, if you manually save you can specify the folder saved to.
