buttons don't work

Simple-scan can scan documents from my Cannon LiDe20 just fine using the UI. However the buttons on the scanner itself don't work.

If you run a terminal and run:

xev

Then press the buttons, do they make effects?

Those are usually managed by some proprietary garbage from Canon, but if they do make normal events we can make scripts to be kicked off when the event happens. If they don't you will need to launch simplescan manually and you may want to pressure Canon to support Linux more

it's most likely a canon driver problem. i have a canon mfp 4150. only half the stuff works. you're lucky you can get the scanner to work. mine doesn't.
