How do I attach the scanned file to gmail?

Asked by dno

Simple Scan has been a Great addition to Ubuntu! I have made gmail my default mail program. (set google gmail as standard mail program System -> Preferences -> Preferred Applications. Mail reader - write /usr/bin/firefox “%s” as “custom” option in the Ubuntu dialogue for preferred mail application) However, this does not attach the file the Simple Scanned. Is there a way to modify the line to attach the file?

Thank You,

You need to login to gmails web client, once you've started to compose a message, click "attach a file" and from there you can choose your scanned file.

..and this is a question that should have been asked in googles discussion :-)

Clearly you misunderstood. I know how to login into gmail and attach a file. duh! But Simple Scan has a drop down menu for email. I want to email the file I just scanned from within Simple Scan. So what I am looking for is the correct syntax for the script that would insert the just scanned file as an attachment in gmail. Not just launch gmail in a browser. So the end result desired of what I want is: Scan a picture, click Document -> Email -> gmail launches with the just scanned picture as an attachment.

Thanks in advance

Oh, my apologies. I don't think that gmail can recieve the attachment as a parameter through that script. Better to wait and see what someone with more knowlege in the area say.

The handy way is to configure your gmail account enabling the pop3 or better the imap services:

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&ctx=mail&answer=10350

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&ctx=mail&answer=75725

then with your preferred mail client (evolution or thunderbird or other) configure it to download and send mail using gmail so you will be able to send all attachments you want...
