i'm not sure your scanner is detected by Ubuntu as usb device (please tell is connected via usb ?)
So now please unplug your scanner from usb plug and please repeat the previous command so we can see if something change.

Get the firmware file by search in google - u176v046.bin.
my username is gili, and I paste the firmware file in home/gili. please change this instructions for your speciak details.
copy and paste one by one in terminal:
sudo -i
print your root code.
mkdir /usr/share/sane/snapscan
cp /home/gili/u176v046.bin /usr/share/sane/snapscan
chmod -R a=r,a+X,u+w /usr/share/sane/snapscan
gedit /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf

now new window open. in it change this sentence -
firmware /usr/share/sane/snapscan/your-fimware.bin

to this -
firmware /usr/share/sane/snapscan/u176v046.bin

save the changes (press the ikon) and close gedit.
 in terminal print -
exit
scanimage –l

now the scanner need to work!
(thats help me)
