Shutter 0.98 not working after reboot on Ubuntu 20.04 in virtual machine

Asked by Robert Milling

Running Ubuntu 20.04LTS as host OS and as VMware Workstation virtual guest OS. Followed published descriptions to switch from LinuxUprising PPA to the revived official PPA. All works fine, exactly as expected, on the host OS, even after rebooting.

Initially, immediately after installation, it also works fine on the guest OS. However, after restarting the guest OS shutter will not launch. Nothing happens on the screen. There is no new shutter window and no icon.

Where might I look for details about the failed launch attempts?

If you have installed a package from a PPA, then you have to contact the provider of the PPA for answers to your questions.

Additional advice:
In some cases running a program from a terminal window shows additional error messages that help identifying the cause of a problem..
In your case:
Open a terminal window and execute the command
shutter

Are you referring to autostart issues? If so, see here: https://github.com/shutter-project/shutter/issues/372

If Shutter fails to start even if launched manually, please launch it from command line and post the output.

Can you help with this problem?
