Is there a way to combine two seperate photos into one?

I would like tho take two separate photos of my daughters and put them side-by-side with other into one photo image that i can use for my screensaver/wallpaper.

I think shotwell has not so many features. Is simple and good photo viewer, but for editing pictures better is Gimp.

Install Gimp from the Ubuntu Software Center and you will be surprised of it. Is strong enough that lot of people said " Is better than photoshop"
