shotwell photo manager will not launch

Asked by Cole

When I plug in camera it was recognized by shotwell and opened. Now, will not open even when I select "open with Shotwell"
Shotwell will also not open when selected in applications. I tried removing Shotwell software and re-installing and still will not open. Restarting computer does not help.
Shotwell Version: 0.9.3-0ubuntu0.1 running on Ubuntu 11.4

I suggest to report a bug for this. I can't find anything on this problem on the web... :(

Cole,

A couple of things. First, 0.9.3 is an old version of Shotwell. I recommend using the latest, which can be installed using Yorba's own PPA:

https://launchpad.net/~yorba/+archive/ppa

To add the PPA, you want to add this line to your Software Sources:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/yorba/ppa/ubuntu natty main

and then upgrade to Shotwell 0.11.1.

If you still have this problem, please follow these instructions:

http://redmine.yorba.org/projects/shotwell/wiki/ShotwellFAQ#I-found-a-bug-in-Shotwell-How-can-I-report-it

Then file a bug with Launchpad (or preferably Yorba's Redmine server at http://redmine.yorba.org) and attach the two files to the ticket.

Thank You Jim, and everyone else who responded with help. Downloaded PPA and Shotwell 0.11.1. All is working well now. Life is Beautiful.
