My camera, Sony DSC-W55 Cyber shot isn't being recognized when I plug in the USB

I'm trying to download photos from my camera and shotwell can't do it. It's plugged in using USB cord. The camera is a Sony Cybershot DSC-W55. What else can I try? thanks, Alison
