I need help with my user's password and how to reset it.

I am using the Ubuntu and i forgot my main user's password and i cant download things i need cuz it pops up and asks me to enter my password "Authenicate" it and i dont know how to reset my password to make a new one please help i need it for school!

Boot from recovery mode and click root
after that , give this command to make the system read-write
===================
mount -o rw,remount /
===================

then give this command to reset your password
=================
passwd username
=================
where username = your actual username ,
it will ask you twice for new password , confirm and reboot the system with
