Change Password

Asked by James Musser

I have 12.10 and want to change the password. In the website listed below they talk about looking for a boot menu that has a recovery mode. I can not find any such mode in the present version of boot menu used in12010. Please tell me which boot option I should use to get to the root shell prompt option.

If you know the password then you don't need to go into recovery mode. You can do it from a terminal

To change your own password press CTRL+ALT+T together and in the window that opens enter
-----------------------------------------------------------------
passwd
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Enter the your existing password then the new password twice.

to change spmebody elses password the command is

----------------------------------------------------------------------
sudo passwd foo
---------------------------------------------------------------------

replacing foo with the user name

Agreed with @Warren Hill .

As for the grub menu (recovery mode) you have to hold down the [SHIFT] key during PC-BOOT until grub menu loads.

Thanks
