Installed Ubuntu 12.04. Can not get on as administrator. Will not accept password from previous version. Will only allow three key strokes in the password field.

Asked by Sam Gordon

After installling Ubuntu 12.04 I am not able to get on as administrator. Password was not carried over from previous version. Need to change/create new password so I can perfrom administrative tasks. When I do try to type in a password only three key strokes are allowed in the password field. The cursor turns to a small box and just blinks in the fourth characters position.

Hi ,

The "Reset password using Grub" section is wrong. It needs an addendum.

Before give the command : passwd username , you should do the disk Read-Write. So First you must give this command:

mount -o rw,remount /

and then give the command :

passwd username (where username replace it with yours).

Thanks
