login incorrect...

i have just installed ubuntu 11.04 for servers. i wrote down new user name, user name, password. when it gets through installing it prompts me for ubuntu login and password. i put in the user name and password it kicks back login incorrect. i new to ubuntu, am i doing something wrong?

Why not install Precise? It is LTS so will be supported long after Natty dies in October 2012.

If you hold shit at boot you can select recovery mode, then select root and run:

passwd foo; reboot

change foo for your username. Eg:

passwd andy; reboot

Let the server boot as usual and log in with your new password.
