Authorization changes during upgrade

Asked by Casim Mithani

I upgrade to 12.04 and it went fine. However, I now do not have access to my data, which is now owned by root. I do not know my root password. As far as I remember I have never used it or set it up? What options do I have?

Sorry, but the hints are of no use. My user account is fine and I can log in. However, all my data is owned by root and I have no way of changing the root account either. I cannot change etc/root. the system will not allow me to change root password. Any further suggestions?

I was able to change the ownership from root to my user using sudo and now everything works fine. Thank you.
