Password not authenticating

New Linux User. Average user. Installed Ubuntu 12.04 beta and removed windows 7. after update, I am not able to enter password for functions. Upon boot up. I am prompted to enter password, I do and computer boots up. when I try to add a user account. I am prompted to enter password and it does not authenticate. I've tried resetting it in recovery using intructions (passwd username, resetting password then rebooting. but the problem persists. HELP!!!! PLEASE!!! LOL!

Does the user account you're using have sudo permission? If so this is very odd, maybe some problems while upgrading from beta to final release possibly something broke somewhere which I doubt. Would you consider doing a fresh install of Ubuntu? Just download the latest ISO from the http://www.ubuntu.com/download and burn to disk, remember to always backup all your important data first.
