wont reboot ubuntu without password which is lost!

Asked by kendall Coley

I forgot my password and i tried to go in and manually reset it but it wont let me. I tried to use a reboot disk and reboot USB and its asking me for a password to install. Where should i go from there? I'm all out of ideas on how to change my password to download other programs or music!

Hold SHIFT at boot, select recovery mode, select root.

run:

passwd foo; reboot

Change foo to your username. Eg:

passwd andy; reboot

You can now use your new password once you login (which will use the same password you set)

Can you help with this problem?
