trying to reset mypassword and format my laptop without cd to update cpu

i have a user password on my laptop and i forgot what it was so i cant do anything without it and i dont know how to format my laptop without a cd

You don't need to format it, you can just reset the password. Hold shift at boot, select recovery mode, select root then run:

passwd foo; reboot

chage foo for your username, Eg:

passwd andy; reboot

Then you can log in as your user with the new password.
