retreival of admin password

I am unable to install any of the plug-gins ,new applications,new drivers.Not able to play mp3 tracks and videos too.before i proceed to any changes i do get a window asking for administrative password.At same time with the skype video chat iam not able to see my video.this problem is frequently occurring.
