someone give me ubuntu with out a password

I was give a desk top tower with out a pass word how can I re set it or over ride it

hold shift at boot. Select recovery mode, select root

you can now run:

passwd foo; reboot

change foo for your actual username. Eg:

passwd andy; reboot

You can now log in with your password and have no issues. I suggest you inform the supplier that not only are blank passwords really dumb, they also make the OS not work.

when get in and type passwd it come up to root@,,,,-dell4600 then say enter new UNIX password; after that I can't type the new password or put numbers it like the key board is lock beside the entry key ..SO how can I change that password with the key board lock?????
