Error on password reset

Asked by Sean Grey on 2012-02-14

I have tried (several times) to reset my password in the recovery mode. It gives me the prompts for a new password and I enter it and every time it returns an error of "Authentication token manipulation error" and the password is not reset. Help.

Sounds like the file system is being mounted read only

This did allow me to change my password in the root, but when I then get in to the OS and go to System Settings and User Accounts it does not take the pass word when I try to unlock the administrator account.

You need to reset your default admin user password (if you have forgot it) not the root password,
please don't touch the root account settings...

After you solving your issue to get plain root on a terminal type:

sudo -i
