Login problems with Ubuntu

Asked by davemalaga

Hi everyone.

I have seen numerous posts on this issue but none of them seems to solve my problem
I am new to Ubuntu. And so far it seems great but I have a problem logging in. I hope I can explain myself clearly.
I anstalled Ubuntu using Wubi (from windows)
During the installation process I did not have any prompt to create use passwords. I did see a note on the screen saying something about mirror passwords being used but no prompt to do anything. it just seemed to be a screen log of what was being installed
However, when I start Ubuntu after a reboot, I have the opportunity to login as administrator or as guest. If I enter as guest it asks me for no password. but if i try to log in as administrator ( this is my machine at home) then it asks me for a password which I don't have.
I repeat. I have NO PASSWORDS for Ubuntu.
Using guest access is fine for browsing the net, reading mail and writing letters but if I need to install another program, install drivers for any reason or browse the file system, it ask for authorization from the administrator (that should be me!). I can't even watch videos on youtube because it won't let me install flashpalyer
I really like the look and feel of Ubuntu, but unless I can solve this problem, I really don't know how I can continue using it. I do hope someone can lend me a hand here.

Gere is my system info
acer One Netbook
Running windows XP or Ubuntu
1Gb Ram
Plenty of Gb free hard drive

Yours Hopefully
