Login / Password

Dear friend,

I want to install Ubuntu 11.10 into USB thumb drive for test and evaluate. I install via pendrive installer, my ISO file are " ubuntu-11.10-desktop-amd64.iso ". All are Okay, it no need to login. When the Ubuntu start, I do online update ( total update are 272 ). After that I re-boot and start Ubuntu again. The new update screen ask me to login.

My question is, I have no login ID and no password. I try login = root and password = ( blank ), admin, .. etc. all are not working.

Please recommend.

did you install it to hard disc or live session?

I am surprised you were allowed to update without a password and user being set-up.

If you have installed to the hard disk then there is no easy way to recover what password and user name may have been used but you can reset the password to anything you like see the link below. Note with Ubuntu 11.10 you must have at least one account that needs a password or you will not be able to update the machine.
