Resetting Administrative Password for new owner of a used EEE PC

Asked by Miriam Finley

Dear Sirs,

I am the happy owner of a used EEE PC that I bought from someone who forgot their administrative password and consequently I cannot update this computer, nor can I upload new music, or download anything. Is there a way to do a hard reset of the authenticating password so that I can properly take care of my computer?

I would also like to know how to add memory to this unit, either by an external hard drive or otherwise. Is there an updated hard disk that I can use to replace the old one when it bites the dust? This is a EEE PC 701. Please help. I have searched the internet far and wide with scant results .

Sincerely,

Miriam Finley

"I would also like to know how to add memory to this unit, either by an external hard drive or otherwise."

If you're asking how to modify the hardware, then that is probably not a question about Ubuntu; you might want to post on a PC hardware forum instead. However, you could try asking a separate question about this (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+addquestion), as it is certainly a separate topic from resetting the password. Please note that most people are referring to RAM rather than disk when they talk about "memory", so if you're interested in increasing your storage, you may want to be specific.

I will say this: If the internal hard disk fails and you are unable to replace it, and the computer supports booting from a USB hard drive (which may or may not be the case, feel free to post a new question if you need help finding out), then you should be able to run the machine using an operating installed to an external USB drive. And (assuming it does have USB, which is almost certain) you can definitely use an external USB drive to store files, if you don't have enough room for all your data on the internal drive.

The EEEPC has an SD slot, which can be used to increase your internal storage capacity without having the problem of a stick poking out the side.

The EEEPC has soldered-on internal SSD storage, which is not replaceable.

Dear Miriam Finley,

I understand your situation. To reset the administrative password on your EEE PC, you may try performing a hard reset by removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes, then reinserting it. This could reset the BIOS settings and remove the password.

Regarding adding memory, the EEE PC 701 typically has limited upgrade options. It may not support external hard drives as additional memory, but you can consider using a USB flash drive for extra storage. As for the hard disk replacement, it's recommended to check the specifications of your EEE PC 701 model to find compatible and updated hard drives.

If you're unable to find satisfactory results online, it might be worth contacting the manufacturer's support or seeking assistance from forums dedicated to EEE PC enthusiasts. Best of luck in resolving these issues. For more visit : https://garagedoorsrepairfranklin.com/garage-door-replacement/
