Lost password on laptop

Asked by Mary Jessica Dempsey

I am trying to download Adobe flash player on my Dell laptop (with ubuntu and linux) but it asked for a password and I have no idea what my password is. I am the only user of my computer and have tried all the passwords I can think of, but I am unable to get the correct one. Is there a way I can find the password or reset it?

Thank you for the link!! The link told me to hold shift while booting, but the different options didn't come up; it only says mbr_2FA: I don't know what that means and it won't allow me to do anything until I press enter and then it just boots as normal. I tried pressing escape, typing in recovery, space bar, etc. Do you know what this means? Am I doing it wrong?

Are you running a dell mini 9? They fiddled with the recovery bootup procedure a bit:
