Received a blank question notification from denny32 timed Wed, 13 Jan 2010 02:54:45 -0000, thanks, but this does not include any answer. However as the status of my question has changed to "answered" this appears to be incorrect. Sorry if I'm just . being impatient [grin]

Bug 453010 could be relevant. A language change to English (UK) has now given me a long format date (for example Wednesday 13 January 2010) but this is much too wide to fit in a mailbox date column, so my original question how to change to DD/MM/YYYY still remains.

Please see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453010. The above is not a Launchpad bug reference.

You're half way there. Switch it over to the English format as you did before, then add these into the about:config URL of seamonkey:

mail.ui.display.dateformat.default = Type Integer = 2

To further customize you can use these:

mail.ui.display.dateformat.thisweek = Type Integer = 2
mail.ui.display.dateformat.today = Type Integer = 2

Values are:
0 = 23:53
1 = Friday, 26. December 2003 23:53
2 = 26.12.2003 23:53
3 = 2003/12 23:53
4 = Fr 23:53

Of course the actual order of the days/months and year depends on the language chosen.

More information here:

http://seamonkey.ilias.ca/mailnewsfaq/DateTimeDisplay

You will need to log out and log back in for the language changes to take effect. The mail.ui.display.dateformat.default = Type Integer = 2 format changes just need you to re-load seamonkey up.

Many thanks, Andy. That's fixed it. Had a slight problem getting the new entry format in about:config URL correct at first, but overcame that by adding it directly into Seamonkey's prefs.js file instead. Also found I had to log out and relog back in to Gnome for the change to be effective even though I'd made the language change to English weeks ago. Anway, all's well now. Thank again!
