Where have my sidebar tabs gone?

Asked by Ed Iglehart

One day all my sidebar tabs disappeared. The file panels.rdf exists, but my sidebar is blank, and I can't find any way to get the tabs back. My bookmarks file xists and I can get it with the bookmarks button, but I really prefr to have them visible in the sidebar.

It turns out that the rdf files were in the installation directory (/usr/share/seamonkey/...) but the profile was stored in /home/ed/.mozilla and didn't have the appropriate rdfs. Copying them into the .mozilla/default/xxxxxxxx.slt folder solved the problem.

The question remains: How did this happen?
