Hello

You need to install flash

you need to have extra repositories enabled..
To enable all the software repositories do ref this link..

http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/sources

after getting all the required repositories enabled

Type the following command in a terminal (applications -> accessories -> terminal)

sudo aptitude install flashplugin-nonfree

Please refer these articles for more information on installing flash player:

I must be missing the obvious. I have downloaded and installed flashplayer . When I go to Firefox it shows it as an enabled plugin, however youtube videos are still "greyed out".
I must be doing/ or not doing something stupid!!!
Thanks for your help to date

First please:
a) disable all installed firefox extensions
b) if you have enabled desktop effect please disable them from System->Preferences->Appearance...

And try...

Then take a look at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+faq/60

Hope this helps

Thank you both for your help.
I found out that I was installing flash player to a non existent folder!!!!-- Don't ask me how that happened.
I could not get rid of that item and had to reinstall Ubuntu (8.04) again from scratch.
This time your advice worked!!!
I would like to say that one of the references you gave me was extremely helpful. ( www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/flashmanual)
It has a very good step by step procedure with illustrations of the screens involved.
If all ubuntu advice was like that it would be a snap for newbees!!!
Thanks agin for the help
