SeaMonkey where is it?

Asked by Bill Meier

Why was SeaMonkey taken away. I like it better than other programs for simple web page editing. Now I have to use Kompozer for my wysiwyg editor. SeaMonkey was preferrable.

Will any iissues with 12.04 be resolved?

Bill

Seamonkey was deleted in 12.04 see here

http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/core/precise/universe/base/seamonkey

However it was still in 11.10. You could try a manual install the deb is here

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric/i386/seamonkey/2.4.1-0ubuntu1

I don't know, but SeaMonkey was removed from the 12.04 distribution. I figure there must have been a reason and am wondering if the problem is going to be resolved.

I am not sure what happened, but when I edited an HTML page using SeaMonkey, it somehow made changes to a script that I never touched and that screwed up a web page. I then edited a back up copy, making double sure that the changes were only to the code I intended and the same thing happened. It was a scxript for a drop down menu. It somehow changed so that when you clicked the menu butten, it was just a link back to the page.

After the same thing happening three times, I edited the page with Kompozer and when saved was ok, everything was as intended. It was scary for a bit, because I the changes were so minor that I had uploaded the first attempt to the website without any concerns and , of course, it wasn't functional. I was going crazy until I made the good copy and uploaded it.

I do not care about fixing SeaMonkey. I uses to like the wysiwyg editing better than Kompozer, but I can't help wondering if there is some good reason that it was NOT included with the 12.04 release and that I found out why.

This is just a comment to be added in case anybody else has the problem, it would be worth looking into.
