At first please make sure you did not accidentally activate the CapsLock key or any other Lock key. Open the text editor an see if you can type your password properly.

Next check if you are in the proper group: open the Terminal application, enter
id
and press Enter. There should be a list displayed, it has to include the group 27(sudo).
Also it displays your username as the first value in ( ).You can also get it with the command:
whoami

There is a procedure for resetting the password: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LostPassword
The lines in the greyboxes are commands you have to enter. Make sure you replace <username> with your actual username.

Reboot and hold SHIFT and select recovery mode and then root.
You will now have a root prompt and can run:

mount -o remount,rw /
passwd name

Obviously change 'name' for your ubuntu username. Once you set your password, run:

reboot

To reboot the system. Let the PC boot as normal and log in with your new password.

There is a description how to reset your password in http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword

Try following that instruction. And in case you get stuck somewhere. don't hesitate to ask!

Can you help with this problem?
