I cannot update as I do not remember my password

I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a pc some months ago and not used it. Ido not know the password used to unlock the keyring default..How can I delete my original code and enter a new one which I will record this time. I have looked in "password and encription keys" in accessories but cannot solve it.

You can enter the recovery mode during the boot-up (grub) menu. Then drop to root shell and type the command:

  passwd <you_username_here>
