Would it be possible to publish this package on earlier Ubuntu series, such as the long term releases (12.04, 14.04)?

There is a PPA https://launchpad.net/~reddit/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
Maybe you can use it as a workaround

According to the description, the packages in reddit ppa may have modifications to work with reddit.com, which is sub-optimal. It would be better to have an unaltered package of searborn.
