XSane to see scanner

Asked by HES

I am using Ubuntu 7.10, and can't get my USB Microteck Scan Maker 5800 to make a whimper. As you can see from the below results it sees the scanner, but wants to do something with the video board. I don't understand.

hes@hes-desktop:~$ sane-find-scanner

  # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
  # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
  # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

  # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
  # you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

found USB scanner (vendor=0x05da, product=0x30d8 [USB2.0 SCANNER]) at libusb:001:004
  # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
  # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

  # Not checking for parallel port scanners.

  # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
  # can't be detected by this program.

  # You may want to run this program as root to find all devices. Once you
  # found the scanner devices, be sure to adjust access permissions as
  # necessary.
hes@hes-desktop:~$ scanimage -L

The first google answer gave me that

http://www.sane-project.org/unsupported/microtek-scanmaker-5800.html

So it seems that your scanner is not supported.

I have not dug deep though. Good luck !

Thanks very much. I guess I am a little dense. I never thought that it
would not be supported. Nor did I know how to get the list. Much to my
surprise it is very large. I went to the web, dropped off my scanner
information and got the whole list. The reason I am writing you, besides
wanting to say thank you, is to find out if there is a list of supported
scanners. Dropping off the un from supported didn't get it.

I am sorry I don't know how this works yet. I didn't mean for this to remain open. You answered my question, "The Scanner is not supported". I was just looking for a list of supported scanners so I could replace the one I have. Thank you for the information, and the very quick response.
