What is the output of :

lsb_release -a; uname -a; lsusb

Assume it is a USB device as you haven't given this detail.

Thanks

According to this link

http://www.robinclarke.net/archives/the-paperless-office-with-linux

you just need to install the xsane package and then the scanner should work out-of-the-box.

You can install xsane by opening a Terminal and running this command:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install xsane

Doesn't work for me too. I actually maintain the AUR package and for real this is the best option right now. At least you don't have to install the hplip bloat. thanks
