Same problem with a Canon Canoscan N656U.

This scanner : works fine with MS Windows
                       makes a lot of noise and does not scan anything with Edgy
                       seems to be recognized with Feisty (herd5), but nothing is previewed nor scanned.

I'm using Xsane under Edubuntu and Omnipage under XP.
