Fujitsu fi-65f Scanner in ubuntu 12.04 & 14.04 LTS

Asked by T M Karikalan

Hi All,

I have Fujitsu fi-65f Scanner which has to be attached to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS or Ubuntu 14.04 LTS machine but there is no SANE support for the Fujitsu fi-65f scanner, So is there any other way to make the fujitsu fi-65f scanner work.

Thanks in advance,

Karikalan

I assume the scanner is USB based.

I cannot find the ID of the scanner anywhere online. DO Fujitsu make scanner drivers for Linux (check Fujitsu website)

I do not find any reference to linux on the Fujitsu fi-65f driver pages, so I assume that fujitsu does not provide drivers for Ubuntu.

The fi-65f seems to be the successor model of fi-60f which (according to http://www.sane-project.org/lists/sane-backends-cvs.html#S-EPJITSU ) should be supported by the epjitsu backend.

If the fi-65f works with the same driver as the fi-60f, you might get this working.

I assume that you will have to add some configuration data (similar to those for fi-60f) for the fi-65f.

I have done all the configuration but the scanner is not working it says no scanner found chage the scanner.

So let me know what is the configuration to be changed.

Thanks in advance,

I do not have such device myself, so I can only provide advice that I derive from what I see for similar devices:

I assume that the fi-65F works quite similar to the fi-60F and is able to use the same drivers, which might be totally wrong!

1. /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane.rules contains entries for lots of scanners.
I propose that you search for fi-60F, copy that entry (two lines) and adapt it for fi-65F (with ID 11bd instead of 10c7)

Reboot your system and test whether you can access the scanner (e.g. with sane-find-scanner and/or scanimage -L).

2. if that still does not work, you maybe have to provide the firmware
See /etc/sane.d/epjitsu.conf
It should be possible to extract the firmware file from the windows driver package (I assume it is named 65f_0000.nal or similar), put it into the directory as shown in epjitsu.conf for the fi-60F scanner, and add the respective lines to epjitsu.conf (again using 11bd as device ID)
Google shows that someobody else has done that (maybe without success), see http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.graphics.scanning.sane.devel/23273

Can you help with this problem?
