Backport samba4-stable to ubuntu precise

Asked by Chris Jones

Samba 4 has now been released as a stable release (version 4.0.0+dfsg1-1). Can this be backported to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, for those of us who would like to use the release version but on LTS?

You can request a backport by following the procedure here

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports

Alternatively the deb file from quantal is here http://packages.ubuntu.com/quantal/samba4

Check the dependencies carefully and if they are met on your system you can manually install from there.

@actionparsnip it is - but thats the alpha (4.0.0~alpha18.dfsg1-4ubuntu2), not the final release

@warren-hill Thanks for that!! I'm going through that process now
