sonos compatibilty ubuntu? Can I run sonos through Ubuntu?

Asked by CJK

Previously ran Sonos music system with windows XP. Am now in the process of evaluating Ubuntu but can't run Sonos. I have contacted Sonos and their answer is below.

`Sonos currently does not have Desktop Controller software available for Linux. However, if you are able to configure SMB to create a file share on your computer, you should be able to use a Controller to point Sonos to this share to access music from it.´

Is this a solution and if so, how do I do it?

Basically an SMB share is like a Windows share but on an Ubuntu system

If you run:

sudo apt-get install samba

You can then use nautilus to share the folder as they state but I am not familiar with Sonos but I'm guessing its some kind of music player which can access music on Windows (and therefore smb) shares.
