how to share data ubuntu 8.04

I have a problem. I want to share a data from Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to windows XP. There are something problem after I click "Crete Share" button. It says : "
Samba's testparm returned error 1: Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf
Processing section "[printers]"
Processing section "[print$]"
Loaded services file OK.
ERROR: lock directory /var/run/samba does not exist
ERROR: pid directory /var/run/samba does not exist
"
What is it mean ?
How I can repair it ?? and so I can make a share folder on ubuntu 8.04 LTS.
