How often are Samba updates imported from upstream?

Asked by Mike Silva

In Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, there is currently a regression in Samba 4.15.5 and a new issue, which cause connection issues with macOS clients. The regression causes segfaults with macOS client connections. The new issue, breaks durable handles, which are crucial to Samba's support of Time Machine over SMB.

For the regression:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14900
For the new issue:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15022

This regression was fixed in Samba 4.15.6, see:
https://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-4.15.6.html

The new issue in 4.15.7, see:
https://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-4.15.7.html

Both cause serious connection issues with my instances of macOS Monterey (latest release).

If there is a crash with the current version, then please create a bug report.
Standard ways of working in Ubuntu for coping with such issues usually is cherry-picking the related bugfix (and not upgrading to a later version).
