Sharing files and printer on a Windows Vista pc

Asked by Bjørn Hagen

Hello!
I have a pc running on windows vista. It is connected to a printer (HP) via USB and to a wireless network. I want to access the printer (and files) from a machine that run ubuntu. I looks like the linux machine finds the printer, but it does not work. Is there a simple way to this. I am a new linux user.

first u need to "Print Services for Unix" on your windows machine....

once that is done....
try to add a printer in ubuntu..
-> choose "Network Printer” & “Windows Printer (SMB)”
-> put your workgroup in the Host field
->put “guest@<host>/<printer>” in the Printer field

now u have a working network printer!~!

Thanks a lot! I realised that I had made a BIG mistake. The server name contained some native Norwegian letters. This made it impossible for the linux machine recognise the server. A change in the name solved the whole problem. But thanks you very much for your assistance.
