Can't network on homegroup

Asked by Owl

I have yet to use any network function at all on Ubuntu. Really poor configuration and support. I've spent plenty of time combing through Ubuntu Help and forums. Installing and/or configuring Samba and apache files and drivers as so many dead end forum info suggests. It doesn't matter. Nothing remotely works.

I can't see any other Linux system in my home network, not to mention seeing any Windows machines. The best I've ever managed is I can see Window filesystem on systems where I have dual installation.

Currently Win7/Linux-ubuntu 12.04 LTS on two PCs, and have Windows 7 on laptop.
