Not saving login password when connecting to ubuntu 11.04 from windows

Asked by Olive Branch

Hi

My current problem is causing one of my users much frustration. She has a machine running windows 7. I can connect to the shared folders on our file server which is a power PC running Ubuntu 11.04 from her machine on small business network (workgroup), no problem. But my situation is that her windows machine does not store the login user name and password on shared links from windows. She has to log into the server each time she restarts her machine with a user name and password. Now I tried creating a mapped network drive which uses the feature to re-connect when logging in a new every time she switches of the machine which asks to save a username and password. But it seems like it just stores it in cache and that is it. How can the login details to the server on the windows machine be stored without her having to use it each time she restarts her machine in the morning.

When you connect there is a section to connect as a different user. You need to use this bit and tell the OS to remember the credentials. I suggest you post on a Windows forum as the share is working ok. It's just your client (running Windows) with the issue.

Their are two users working from windows machines plus I did what you suggested first time already and still loosed the logins details each time a log in. Do you know any worthwhile windows forums?
