Mount a share Netgear/Win7

Asked by strikerazde

Running dual boot with Win7 currently and ubuntu 11.04.

I have in my home network a Netgear ReadyNAS drive. what do I need to mount that drive in ubuntu? I believe the ReadyNAS is running some version of Linux, and it has a static IP something like 10.10.10.200

Also my Win7 drive has 1500 songs on it, I could move to the NAS if needed, but might be better if ubuntu could access the WIN7 share where these are located. as I carry this dual boot laptop with me. How do I go about mapping a WIN7 share?

Thank you

If you run:

sudo smbtree; lsb_release -a

Hmm, do you have a firewall on the Windows system?

Actually sorry, I just booted into WIN7 to verify system name, the correct name is "Inspiron-Lap" no quotes. Also the workgroup is a different name than what the earlier output showed.

Currently I am not at home, so the ReadyNAS will not be reachable. since it's dual booting however I thought I could get to a WIN7 share. From what I can tell samba is not installed but when I ran your earlier command it failed as the directory already existed.

Dhoooooooo, when I'm in ubuntu, WIN7 is not running until I get home and can see another computer on home network. Sorry, must have me head somewhere.

However, having said that do I need to load samba?

You should not need to install anything additional on a normal Ubuntu system, for it to be able to access shares on Windows machines. So no, you should not need to install any samba related packages that are not currently installed. You might need to install additional packages to share folders on your Ubuntu system with windows systems (and with other Ubuntu systems using Windows file sharing), but you would be automatically prompted with the option to do so when enabling shares on the Ubuntu system.

Perhaps you're looking for 'File -> Connect to Server' in the file browser option? With the type 'Windows share'

Can you help with this problem?
