Can't connect to the server

Asked by Aaron Rosenthal

I have just installed 10.04 in my HP Pavillion DV 2, and I cannot connect to my server.
I highlight <Connect to server>, then select <Windows Share>, specify <Backupserver>, and it finds the server and the rest of the network.
However it will not mount the drives. I get: Unable to mount location
"DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)"
It's a Synology server and I back up a MacBook Pro and a Windows XP Pro desktop to it, but the server does not have a firewall.
I'm working wirelessly now, but did have it open when I had my LAN cable in place - but have a laptop for a reason!

I went to the thread, but it does not tell me how to solve the problem.
There are threads going to threads, leading to samba and other threads.
It's compounded by the fact that my terminal program will not allow me to enter may password - a different problem.
Is there code I can cut & paste into my terminal screen, or directions where to install the code?

The terminal IS accepting your password. It simply provides no feedback. This is to hide password length. Just type it and hit ENTER and it will work.

If you press ALT+F2 and type:

smb://servername/sharename

replace servername with the servers actual name
replace sharename with the name of the share you want to access

Does it connect ok?

Does the account you connect with have a password (This will be your windows password, not the ubuntu one)

When I do the actions you suggest, I indeed get to the server.
Do I need to do this each time I need to get to the server, or is there a faster way?

That's just how I do it and it's fine, the run box remembers stuff as far as I know so you should be able to drop down the box and rerun the same command.

If you use the connect to server item as you expect, but use it on the wired connection there is the option at the bottom to add it as a bookmark. This will add it in the places menu for easy access and may just work over the wireless
