Failed to execute child process "testparm"

Asked by Ralph

I just put 10.10 on a computer and can't share my files with other computers on my network. I can see them but get a "Failed to retrieve share list from server" error. Any help would be great..

How are you wanting to share the data? FTP? Samba? SSHFS?

I have a wired/ wireless router with two microsoft OS's and one with Ubuntu 10.10. The windows computers are showing up in the Network List in Places but can't access them as before. I would like to be able to share files back and forth between computers and use printers also, but that can wait. I'm not sure what to use.. I did download Gadmin-Samba but not sure how to set up. Instructions are vague..

What version are the windows OSes?

you don't need gadmin, samba works fine in nautilus. You can also use smb.conf with great results.

The one is Windows 7 starter and the other is XP.. What is Nautilus? Removed Gadmin-Samba.. Have Samba installed and found smb.conf.
