how to install SALOME from Launchpad using "apt-get"?

Asked by Alexey Petrov

Hi Salome for Ubuntu team,

Thank you for your time and efforts!
I am wondering, is it possible to install SALOME directly from Launchpad using "add-apt-repository" & "apt-get"?

Thank you in advance,
Alexey

Thank you for the quick and prompt answer!

Could you post this viable informational somewhere on your project page? Or it is self-evident?

Thank you in advance,
Alexey

I am not (and nor is ubuntu) affiliated with salome, although I have (briefly) used it. I did see someone enter the package into the debian science repository a while ago, from which I was able to guess that it shoul have reached the ubuntu auto-import by now.

I searched
packages.ubuntu.com

for SALOME, and found it that way.

As an end user, you may wish to send the SALOME developers a note (via their email, or on their forums) to suggest to them to mention that there exists a version of SALOME in the debian and ubuntu repositories, and ask if they would consider noting this on their home page. They might, they might not. Some projects are more than happy to do this, whilst others are quite opposed to it, due to the delay that packaging naturally implies.
